BIGSTEVE LABS — INDEPENDENT AI RESEARCH & TESTING

THE LAB
IS WORKING.

BigSteve Labs designs, builds, and stress-tests AI agents, automation, and emerging technology for the real world — then publishes the evidence.

01 · WHAT THE LAB DOES

Built for the real world — not the demo.

Six working disciplines, one standard: if it can’t survive contact with reality — rate limits, failures, ambiguity, humans — it isn’t finished.

01

AI Reliability

Deterministic testing of how agents fail, recover, and behave when providers, quotas, and tools misbehave — with the failure reproduced, not assumed.

02

Agent Systems

Design and operation of practical AI agents that do real work: bounded tools, visible state, accountable handoffs, human approval where it matters.

03

Automation

End-to-end pipelines that connect models, tools, and people — built to survive rate limits, provider changes, and interrupted runs.

04

Model & Tool Evaluation

Structured comparison of models, providers, and toolchains on tasks that matter, with confidence levels, licensing, and suitability flagged.

05

Applied AI Research

Experiments with documented methods, results, and limitations — published through the lab’s reporting infrastructure.

06

Experimental Systems

Prototypes and platforms built to find the edges of what works: local AI, home-lab infrastructure, and voice-first assistants.

02 · CURRENT EXPERIMENT

Agent Rescue: a failed job, recovered at 73%.

A running AI workload hit an HTTP 429 rate-limit condition and stopped at 73% complete. The lab demonstrated the full recovery path — detection, human-approved provider switch, preserved progress, resumption to completion.

STEP 01

The job fails at 73%

HTTP 429

The AI workload halts mid-run, blocked by a rate-limit response from its provider. Not a crash, not a hang — a quota condition with a clear signature.

STEP 02

Failure identified

DIAGNOSIS

The system identifies the failure condition and records it, separating a recoverable quota event from unrecoverable errors.

STEP 03

Alternate provider selected

HUMAN APPROVAL

An alternate provider is chosen to continue the job. The switch is approved by a human operator — the authority boundary stays explicit.

STEP 04

Progress preserved

CHECKPOINT

The completed 73% is not discarded. Work state is preserved so the job resumes from the checkpoint instead of restarting from zero.

STEP 05

Recovery completed

100%

The workload resumes from preserved progress and runs to completion — the full failure-to-recovery loop, demonstrated end to end.
